Camarillo Health Care District will host four presentations from local doctors and a Medicare presentation this spring. Topics include burn injuries and treatments; the aging ears, nose and throat; addressing the stigma of addiction; and robotic-assisted knee surgery. These doctor talks will be held April-May on the District’s campus, 3639 Las Posas Road, in Camarillo. In addition, the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program, part of the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging, will present “New to Medicare: Turning 65 or Retiring?” on May 23. Presentation on burn injuries and treatment set

Dr. Rachel Williams, a board-certified general and critical care surgeon specializing in burn and wound care at Community Memorial Healthcare, will present "Burn Injuries and Treatment" from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on April 17 at Camarillo Health Care District, 3639 Las Posas Road, in Camarillo. She will discuss the different degrees of burn injury, how to treat a burn at home and when to go to the hospital for treatment, and advances in treatment.

Dr. Williams is passionate about helping her patients improve their quality of life. A graduate of Boston University Medical School and the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, she completed  her burn and surgical critical care fellowships at Emory University and Grady Memorial Hospital. 

Dr. Williams was inspired to pursue wound care after a life-changing trip to Bolivia, where she volunteered in a burn unit to care for those with limited health access.

Her practice now focuses on wound care, hyperbaric medicine and critical care surgery. She commonly treats burns, pressure and non-pressure ulcers and performs limb salvage surgeries.

Committed to serving others, Dr. Williams volunteers with the American College of Surgeons humanitarian outreach program, Operation Giving Back and participated in medical missions in Haiti.

Lend Me Your Ears: New Treatments for Common Ear, Nose & Throat Issues in the Aging Population 

On April 30, Dr. Saranya Reghunathan, board certified ENT Specialist in Camarillo, will discuss common issues with the aging ears, nose and throat and updated minimally invasive safe treatment options for those who have been suffering. Some of these conditions include chronic rhinitis (runny nose), tinnitus (ringing the ear), eustachian tube dysfunction (ear blockage and/or fullness and pressure), nasal congestion, chronic cough, trouble swallowing, and hoarseness.

Dr. Reghunathan is a board certified Ear, Nose & Throat surgeon who practices the entire range of adult and pediatric ENT. She specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of voice, swallowing and airway disorders.

A native of  Ventura County,  Dr. Reghunathan has dedicated her practice to treating common ailments in our local aging population in a minimally invasive fashion in the office. Her goal is to share this information with the community to let them know there are safe and  innovative treatments for these issues that often affect quality of life. She will be discussing advances in technology that can make every day living even more full for patients that have been suffering for years. 

Presentation: Addressing the Stigma of Addiction

Attend a free, informational presentation by Dr. Jonathan Shirman, a board-certified physician specializing in both family medicine and addiction medicine at Community Memorial Healthcare. His  presentation will take place 2:30-3:30 p.m. on May 1 at Camarillo Health Care District, 3639 Las Posas Road in Camarillo.

Addiction is often shrouded in stigma, leading to misconceptions and barriers to treatment. This presentation will explore the nature of addiction, the impact of stigma, and the vital role of addiction medicine in addressing these challenges.  By promoting understanding of addiction as a medical condition and emphasizing the importance of addiction medicine, Dr. Shirman says he can create a more inclusive environment that encourages individuals to seek help without fear of judgment.

Dr. Shirman, who practices at Community Memorial Healthcare, earned his degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. With advanced training in addiction medicine, he is adept at evaluating, diagnosing, and treating individuals facing substance abuse disorders.

Doctor to speak on robotic-assisted knee surgery

Dr. Petros Frousiakis of Community Memorial Healthcare will present "Inside Robotic-Assisted Knee Surgery" from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on May 7 at Camarillo Health Care District, 3639 Las Posas Road in Camarillo.

This free informational presentation will touch on the technology behind robotic systems and review clinical data comparing robotic-assisted and conventional techniques, patient selection criteria, as well as postoperative rehabilitation considerations. 

Attendees are expected to gain valuable insights into how this technology is shaping the future of knee replacement surgery.
