How will you celebrate Older Americans Month?

May is Older Americans Month, so let's celebrate by recognizing the contributions of our older citizens and connecting with them on a deeper level.
How will you meet the challenge?
Some ideas from the Administration for Community Living include a selfie challenge on social media asking your network of friends to hold up a piece of paper that says "I flip the script on aging by (fill in the blank)" using the hashtag #OlderAmericansMonth. The idea is to encourage individuals to challenge stereotypes on aging and dispel misconceptions.
Other ideas include asking your social media followers to share wisdom, tips and stories that debunk stereotypes and build connection; volunteering for an organization that assists seniors; connecting with seniors through cards, letters or at in-person events; building relationships with seniors and exploring shared interests by taking a class together, joining a social club or trying new activities.
Older Americans' skills, talents and diverse life experiences enrich our lives and community. The Camarillo Health Care District is committed to strengthening our communities by connecting with and supporting older adults, their families and caregivers, and acknowledging their many valuable contributions to society.
The District recognizes a need to create community that provides the services and support older Americans need to thrive and live independently for as long as possible. The District also recognizes the importance of bringing together all generations and engaging in activities that promote physical, mental and emotional well-being for the benefit of all.
If you've ever taken one of our classes (Powerful Tools for Caregivers, Dealing with Dementia, Matter of Balance, Bingocize, Adventures in Virtual Reality, Digital Scrapbooking); enrolled in one of our programs (Fall Prevention, Senior Support Line, Senior Nutrition, Adult Day) or taken advantage of our advocacy services (Elder Legal, Financial Counseling, Scam Intervention Coaching, Nutrition Counseling), then you know we are committed to promoting community health through service, education and empowerment.
Join us in honoring older adults this month (and every day!) in your own unique way. It could be as simple as sharing a smile, kind word or extended hand.
