New Wellness Hour & More

Health Care District offering lecturettes

Who doesn't want tips for healthy aging?

That topic and more are part of Camarillo Health Care District's new Wellness Hour set to launch on May 16.

"Practical Tips for Healthy Aging" will be held as part of the Wellness Hour from 10 to 11 a.m. Cost is $10 (non-District residents add $4).  We will discuss strategies for maintaining a healthy diet, staying active, managing pain, and enhanced overall well-being. Learn simple, effective habits to boost energy, improve mobility, and support a vibrant, independent lifestyle.

On June 25, from 10 to 11 a.m., the Wellness Hour will feature the topic "Caring for Yourself While Caring for Others."  Are you putting others before yourself? Are you putting your needs on the backburner? Does it feel like the care you provide for a loved one, friend or family member leaves with little to no time for yourself? Are you feeling frustrated, anxious or irritable? Come to this lecturette to learn ways to care for yourself while caring for another. Cost is $10 (non-District residents add $4).

To register, call 805-388-1952. Go to our website for more classes that can help you maintain your health.

Watch videos from our storytelling event

If you missed our event, "Stories from the Heart: Inspiring Tales of Life, Love and Learning," on Feb. 6 at the Camarillo Public Library, you can now watch from the comfort of your home or on the go using your mobile device. We have uploaded each story to our YouTube channel and website

Dawn, Pattie, Dot, and Leslie share heartwarming personal stories about their journeys as caregivers to their aging parents and Elizabeth offers a story about her perseverance and endurance en route to better health.

Despite the rain, several dozen people attended the event, a live version of the District's podcast.

VR class combines cycling and virtual landscapes

In the last month or so, the District has introduced the VR Travel Club, VR Activity Club and Off to the Races and More, VR cycling experience.

We encourage you to click on the links above to read more about them and register if they sound like something you would like to try. All combine an immersive virtual reality experience with socialization (meeting new friends!) and engaging games.

"Off to the Races" adds a healthy component as it gets your feet moving and heart pumping.

“Participants get to experience various games in a virtual setting while getting the benefits of moving their bodies and working their cardiovascular system," said Luis Morales, III, RN, the District’s Care Services Director. "Participants not only get to move their bodies through low-impact cycling movements but also get to socialize and enjoy different virtual reality experiences with friends and families."

Pop balloons that appear in front of you as you make your way down different trails improving your hand-eye coordination and thinking skills. Color and pattern matching tasks are baked into each activity, so your brain benefits from each experience.

In the second half of the class, showcase your artistic skills as you paint virtually on an infinite canvas. Create a family portrait, sketch your pet, paint flowers or a sunset – whatever sparks your imagination.

If you want to give "Off to the Races" a try, the District offers individual classes at just $5 (non-District residents add $4). Classes are held on our campus, 3639 Las Posas Road, in Camarillo. We provide the equipment and facilitate the experience. To register or learn more, call us at 805-388-1952.

VR Activity Club offers one-day pilot - try it out!

Camarillo Health Care District’s VR Activity Club kicks off on April 22, but now is your chance to try it before committing to four weeks. Join our pilot group on March 17, St. Patrick's Day.

VR Activity Club encourages group experiences and social connection through an immersive program that combines virtual reality travel and in-real-life (IRL) activities. Participants may take a stroll down memory lane or learn something new by engaging in a group activity, and experience the excitement of virtual travel with guided tours and discussions.

These clubs will be made up of six individuals who meet four consecutive weeks. The experiences will be one-hour long with an additional 30 minutes set aside for an optional Snack & Chat (participants bring their own snacks to enjoy while getting to know each other better, building a connection). Cost is $30 for the series (non-District residents add $4).
