Elder Legal Answers Your Questions On ...
Camarillo Health Care District concluded its "Elder Legal Answers Your Questions On ..." series on April 22, 2024. The topic was special needs trusts. Some of what was covered included what is a special needs trust, who might need and benefit from a special needs trust, what protections does it cover, and why (overall) it is an important trust to consider for a person with a disability or a child or an adult with special needs.
The series kicked off in Spring 2023. February's topic was conservatorship and included a panal discussion.
The series led with "Fraud, Financial Abuse and Signs of Domestic Abuse" in April 2023, followed on May 15 with "What Happens if I Don't Die: Legal Planning for Incapacity," June 17 with "What You Need to Know When Hiring a Caregiver Privately," July 17 with "Understanding and Addressing Elder Abuse," Aug. 21 with "Nursing Homes: What You Need to Know," Sept. 18 with "Does My Parent Have Dementia? Attorneys who are part of the Elder Legal Services volunteer team were involved in presenting the topics.
The series was recommended for older adults and their children.
The District was pleased to work with the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging (VCAAA) through the Older Adult Recovery & Resilience (OARR) program to offer this series.
Grant funding helped to expand legal services and education to assist older adults, and older adults with disabilities with a variety of legal problems and concerns, including elder fraud and scams, elder abuse, advance directives, hiring an in-home caregiver, housing rights and general public benefits, estate planning, conservatorship and capacity, nursing home issues, and other legal matters impacting these populations.
